Sir,
There is no doubt that our cricketers have made India proud by winning the Twenty 20 Cricket World Cup by defeating Pakistan in Johannesburg. But why this frenzied behaviour? A sport is a sport and one must strive to become mature in accepting both victory and defeat and yet enjoy a game well played - that is sportsmanship. We have become too emotional and reach dizzy heights when we win and plunge into depths of depression in defeat - when it comes to cricket. This is symptom of a psychological disorder. We cannot push our youngsters into such a frame of mind. The money, gifts and other perks offered by the various State governments (all at people's cost) makes one wonder why the victory of this game alone should earn such encomiums. On the other hand people are reeling under poverty and farmers committing suicides which the various governments are insensitive to.
The politicisation of cricket is another ill. Cricket is a pampered game with too much of money attached while other games and sports like volleyball, football, hockey and kabbadi, et al are pushed to the periphery and not encouraged at all. This is a bias. Should not all sports get equal treatment? Should there be a panel now set up to safeguard the 'backward' sports and games? The phobia with cricket has reached a point that the victory of the Twenty 20 World Cup has triggered communal violence in some States. It is time for the politicians and sports-lovers to sit up and take stock of the situation.

Sir,
MTC seems to be giving a raw deal to Besant Nagar as far as bus services are concerned. Besant Nagar is treated like a step-child, it should be said. There are a few past instances to prove this point. There is no straight bus to Central Railway station from Besant Nagar. Earlier, there was route no 4 which was iverted to Tiruvanmiyur with the result Besant Nagar commuters are put to a lot of difficulties on a daily basis. Why such an attitude is being adopted towards Besant Nagar?
Route number 6A is a bus that originates from Besant Nagar but it takes longer since it takes beach route and via Triplicane.and it only touches Central and one has to reach the Central with heavy baggage. Recently many colourful buses were introduced by MTC in all the areas. Not one single bus was from Besant Nagar. 23C and 47A were diverted to Tiruvanmiyur and we do not know why it was done.
Now 23C vestibule bus has been introduced from Besant Nagar and we are thankful to the MTC for that! However, there seems to be some aversion to Besant Nagar from MTC for reasons best known to them.
