More skeletons have tumbled out from the cupboard of disgraced Bishop Yobu Saravanan who allegedly cheated building contractors by assuring to construct houses for the poor.
The State's Crime Branch - Criminal Investigation Department (CB-CID) is on look out for three industrialists from Chennai who reportedly obtained kick-backs from the Bishop promising him to get foreign aid.
According to police, the three industrialists residing at Besant Nagar, Ashok Nagar and K K Nagar were said to have received Rs 80 lakh as commission from the Bishop for obtaining foreign grant to build free houses for the poor in Vellore. The CB-CID officials have now launched a man hunt for the three persons who were absconding.
It may be recalled that after arresting Yobu Saravanan and another trust member Rajendran on 6 December, a special unit of CB-CID took Saravanan into its custody. Further, interrogation of the Bishop led to the recovery of four cars, cash and jewellery. The alleged offences of Saravanan was said to have been committed over the last one and a half years.
Besides, documents relating to the 175 acres of land, which were seized by the CB-CID after the arrest of the two persons, the special unit had now in its custody papers relating to 33 cents of land on East Coast Road, near Puducherry, and a piece of land measuring 4,400 sq ft in Vellore.
During the interrogation,
it was revealed that Saravanan had amassed property worth Rs 12 crore out
of various cheating cases. The extent of investment made by him after collecting
the money was not fully known. However, more details were expected to be
obtained after nabbing the wanted individuals related to a number of cheating
cases.
