Chennai, Dec 27:

It was a hunt to identify and bring out the hidden talent of young brains. Students from around 10 schools in Chennai wracked their brain to find solutions to various mathematical problems and concepts at the mathematics quiz competitions held here yesterday.

The quiz competitions organised by Nehru Children's Cultural Association were held as part of the 120th birthday celebrations of mathematics genius Srinivasa Ramanujan.

About 12 students qualified for the oral quiz after a written test, held on the same day. President of Nehru Cultural Association M R Sugumaran said the main purpose of conducting such competitions based on mathematics was to inculcate an interest among the school students in Maths. He said that a 10-day mathematics workshop for students is also going on at PS Higher Secondary School at Mylapore.

The association conducts various cultural competitions every year for the students and they include Bharatanatyam and painting. The day also witnessed the honouring of several maths and science teachers from various institutes.
