Music lovers and members of Karthick Fine Arts have appealed to State Electricity Minister Arcot N Veerasamy to provide a land measuring between 10 and 12 grounds at Anna Nagar so that the sabha could have its own premises and thereby organise more musical programmes throughout the year.
The members formally handed over their memorandum making this appeal at the inaugural of the eleventh edition of the of Tamil Isai Vizha, being conducted every year by Karthick Fine Arts at Anna Nagar.
On receipt of the memorandum, Veerasamy assured music buffs and sabha patrons of consideration of the plea and arrive at a decision before the next musical season.
The Minister said Chief Minister M Karunanidhi had great regard for Carnatic music and Tamil language and that he (Veerasamy) would definitely look into the matter.
Later, Veerasamy conferred the Tamizhisai Vendhar title on Carnatic singer D K Pattammal. On behalf of Pattammal, her granddaughter Gayathri Sundararaman received the citation, cash prize of Rs 15,000, and a silver Thambura.
Veerasamy had also put forward a suggestion to the members of the sabha to change the name of the sabha to pure Tamil and call it Karthick Nunkalai Mandram.
Then, industrialist Nalli Kuppuswamy Chettiar conferred Isaichudar title on up and coming Carnatic vocalist K Gayathri. She received a citation and a cash prize of Rs 5,000.
Veteran violinist Sikkil R Bhaskaran received Sirkazhi Govindarajan Memorial cash prize of Rs 2,000.
Speaking on the occasion, film producer A V M Saravanan recalled his father's association with Sangita Kalanidhi D K Pattammal.
The trio M S Subbulakshmi,
M L Vasanthakumari, and D K Pattamal was the greatest in the Carnatic music
