Laurels heaped on Semmangudi

     Anayampatti Ganesan, Jalatarangam artiste, was honoured by the Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer Golden Jubilee Foundation on the occasion of its 31st annual celebrations recently. Presiding over the celebrations held at Ragasudha Hall recently Ganesan said that the music of Semmangudi was divine. He sang and practiced the songs numerous times to perfection before presenting them to his rasikas, he said.

        Inaugurating the celebrations, vocalist Madurai T N Seshagopalan said that Semangudi was responsible for laying the foundation for the present form of manodharma in Carnatic music and giving a permanent shape to the Navavarna kritis of Muthuswamy Dikshitar.

        His music was simple sweet, dignified and attractive, a karmayogi who made the impossible possible.

        People who listened to his music turned to be his students, he said.

        Semmangudi was the greatest testimony to the fact that an ordinary voice could be refined by voice modulation and rigorous practice, he said.
