Give biotech its due, says Seshan

Biotechnology should be given due credit as its growth is good for humanity, former Chief Election Commissioner T N Seshan said today.

Inaugurating a one-day international
conference on life sciences, 'Bio Explore', organised by Alpha College
of Arts and Science, in association with Ohlone College, USA, here, Seshan
said, 'Only in the last five or six years, the importance of biotechnology
and its allied fields have grown among the students. Until then, not a
single student had thought about it as their future studies.'
Even though many students had started opting for biotechnology courses now, the country lacks or does not have advanced curriculum in the field, Seshan added. Chairperson of Alpha Group of Institutions Grace George said this symposium would create awareness among students on bioscience and serve as a platform to interact with industry experts. The meet would also highlight current trends, opportunities available for the students and demands from the industry, Grace added. |

scientist at Frontier Lifeline, Dr Sumanth Raman, advisor of Life Sciences
at TCS, Dr M D Nair, pharmaceutical consultant, Dr K Sivakumar, president
of R&D at TTK-LIG, Dr Mukesh Doble, biotechnology professor at IIT
Madras, Dr Mary Babu, head of bio-materials laboratory at CLRI, and Dr
Sakthivel, president of Aquaculture Foundation of India.
