Alternate site for labour institute

NT Bureau
Chennai, July 28:

State Labour Minister TM Anbarasan praised the performance of Tamilnadu Institute of Labour Studies (TILS) in Chennai and said that an alternate site has been proposed for it.

Addressing the convocation of TILS on Friday, he said the state government had earlier allotted land for the institute to construct its own building. Due to legal problems, the institute could not take possession of it. Hence, the government has decided to allocate alternative site for TILS.

Praising the institute for its good performance, the minister said the institute was able to meet the industry's demand for qualified professionals.

He pointed out that industries absorbed all the students passing out of the TILS. Presiding over the convocation, where degrees and diplomas were presented to 292 students, Labour Department secretary Ramesh Kumar Khanna said the courses offered in the institute were tailor-made to meet the industry's requirement. Due to this students pursing the course have good employment scope.

'This year about 75 per cent of the students were offered employment in 26 reputed companies,' he noted. Labour Commissioner A. Sukumaran also spoke at the convocation.
