Four new booths to get bus passes

Chennai, July 28:

        Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) has issued about 2.1 lakh free bus passes for school students till date for the year 2007-08.

        For the benefit of the new comers and absentees, MTC has arranged for opening four pass taking booths in Adyar, T Nagar, Anna Nagar and Tondiarpet - I depots.

        The booths will function from 10 am to 5 pm. New comers are advised to get the application forms through their respective schools and obtain their pass from the above centres.

        If the number of students is more than 10, MTC pass issue agency will come directly to the school for taking photo and issuing passes, a press release said.

Value addition in fruits, vegetables

        A one-day training programme on value addition in fruits and vegetables will be conducted by the Urban Horticulture Development Centre (UHDC) of Tamilnadu Agricultural University at the UHDC, New No P 44 (Old No P 37), 6th avenue, Anna Nagar on 2 August, between 9.30 am and 4 pm.

        According to a press release, the programme would cover the value addition in fruits and vegetables like jam, juice, jelly, crush, syrup and pickles.

        Training certificates would be issued to all participants. The registration fee is Rs 300 per person. Interested people can contact through phone number - 26263484.

100 participate in IT expo

        Cyber 2007, an Intra-collegiate computer expo was organised on 24 July by Guru Shree Shantivijai Jain College for Women.

        According to a press release, the expo was inaugurated by Sreeram Iyer, CEO, Scope International. In his special address, Sreeram Iyer detailed the statistics of the optimistic IT job market.

        In the expo, students from all disciplines had put up their exhibits. Around 35 teams comprising 100 students participated and displayed their knowledge of IT-related concepts.

Yoga course for instructors

        Vishnu Devananda Yoga Mandiram is commencing its next batch of basic yoga instructor training course from Ist week of August. According to a press release, this job assured, part time course will be conducted under the guidance of Yogacharya Arun Kumar.

        The course with both theory and practical sessions will educate the students in fundamental aspects of yoga and meditation.

        United States Educational Foundation in India (USEFI) will organise a presentation on 'Higher education in the United States' at Stella Maris College on 3 August at 3 pm.

        Pallavoor Vaidyanathan, assistant vice-president for research, University of Central Florida will be the resource person. The programme will highlight the application process to universities in the US and opportunities at University of Central Florida, a press release said.

Bank conducts blood camp

        Bank of Baroda organised a blood donation camp on its centenary year at SIET college, Teynampet in collaboration with Madras Medical Mission, Chennai.

        According to a press release, students, staff members of the bank and common people donated their blood for helping people in need. Seventy people donated blood and 50 units of blood was collected, added the release.
