Mumbai lad Amrut Kadam and Mazadyar K Vatcha of Hyderabad, who notched up maximum points, were selected to race for Team Gemini Racing in the Formula LGB Hyundai class in this year's JK Tyre National Road Racing Championship.
Ralph Allan Luther of Delhi, Avdumber (Goa) and Kohlapur's Rounak Patil are the three reserve candidates.
The maiden training-cum-selection programme organised by Gemini Racing ended successfully at the Kari Motor Speedway here yesterday. The two-day programme to select two racers for Team Gemini Racing was an eventful one with more than 35 competitors in the fray.
On Saturday, 22 out the 35 racers were shortlisted for the shoot-out yesterday.
On the shoot-out day, the racers were subjected to academic training classes and testing of cars in the morning session.
The shoot-out took place in the afternoon session with the judges awarding points to the racers based on the criteria (lines, throttle, track aggression, consistency, braking, smoothness and speed).
At the end, Amrut Kadam and Mazadyar Vatcha notched up the maximum points to win the scholarships. The programme drew response from various parts of the country with racers coming in from Mumbai, Delhi , Bangalore, Hyderabad, Goa, Gurgaon, Chennai, Coimbatore, Tumkur and Goa.
According to Akbar Ebrahim, chief of jury, selection committee, said, 'the boys had really put in great effort which was seen on the track.' Akkineni Anand Prasad, team principal, Gemini Racing, expressed delight over the response to the scholarship programme which he felt was indicative of great start to the first full racing season for Team Gemini Racing.
