The road leading to Pazhavanthangal and out of Nanganallur to GST Road near Trident Hotel comes under highways. Overnight five speed breakers have come up for every 15 feet on the road.

The speed breakers are neither near Kendriya Vidyalaya school located on the road.

An airfreight cargo depot is situated nearby and it might be to facilitate them to negotiate their vehicles the speed breakers could have been set up.

But there are no speed breakers on roads where these are most essential.

A two-wheeler rider says it might not be the authorities that might have put up the hurdle but it must some self-interested public.

'The department would have considered the pros and cons before allowing the speed breakers. It is then obvious that it is not the job of the department, many feel,' he said.

It is also not the cantonment area wherein they have their own norms as to road signs, road blocks etc.

Alandur Municipal chairman R S Bharathy said it might be at the request of school authorities the highways department might have erected the speed breakers.

'As per rules there shouldn't be many speed breakers and the road does not fall within the jurisdiction of the municipality,' he added.
