Chennai, July 29:
The AIADMK led by party supremo J Jayalalithaa would stage demonstration against setting up of Titanium dioxide project in Tuticorin District.
Resenting the move of DMK government in acquiring lands from agriculturists in Santhankulam Taluk, she said that the Rs 2,500 crore Titanium project for which the State government had signed an MoU with Tata group, would affect the livelihood of around 20,000 families.
Coming down heavily on Karunanidhi, she said that it is a blatant lie that the lands acquired for the project were barren and there was not much farming activity. In reality, they were cultivable lands and farmers were fully engaged in raising crops.
Terming Karunanidhi's promise to farmers as an eyewash, Jayalalithaa said by signing the MoU both Tata group and Karunanidhi alone would be benefitted leaving the Santhankulam farmers in the lurch.
Moreover, Karunanidhi has created an impression among the farmers that as many as 1,000 people would get direct employment and indirect employment for 3,000 in the proposed Titanium dioxide plant, she said adding that AIADMK party condemns the DMK government's initiatives of acquiring lands indiscriminately from poor farmers to hand it over to entrepreneurs.
'This is nothing but gross
misuse of power by the minority DMK', she said in her statement.
