Kanchipuram, July 29:

        Kanchi seers Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swami and Sri Sankara Vijayendra Sarawathi Swami today commenced Chathurmasiya Vratham at Kanchi Sankara Mutt. The 73rd Jayanthy fete of Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swami will be celebrated on Tuesday.

        The Acharyas will continue their Chathurmasiya Vratham till 26 September.

        Special poojas were performed at the Mutt today amidst chanting of vedic hymns by scholars. The Kanchi seers visited Sri Ekambareshwarar temple and offered special prayers. Later, they offered prayers at Maha Periyaval Adhishtanam at the Mutt premises.

        Music concerts and discourses were organised as part of the occasion.

        Plans are on to celebrate Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Jayanthy on Tuesday in a grand manner. Devotees have been thronging the Mutt in large numbers.
