S Nagin has been installed as a district governor of the Lions Club for the year 2007-2008.
According to a press release, the governor stressed on programmes like Lions golden school, image building, community activities, cultural activities, AIDS awareness and welfare of the differently abled and senior citizens.
The club had also signed an MoU with Agarwal's Eye Hospital recently for screening school students. Free spectacles would also be distributed as part of the MoU. The estimated project cost is Rs 25 lakh.
Major programmes of the club in the current year include contribution of Rs 45 lakh to Lions Clubs International Foundation for the Campaign Sight programme; about 60 hoarding would be placed at vantage points within the district propagating the service activities of the Lions district. The project cost estimated is Rs 10 lakh.
As many as eight need based permanent projects in each of eight regions at the cost of Rs 24 lakh. The total cost of the proposed projects is Rs one crore and 69 lakh, the press release said.
Apart from these, the clubs
in the district would independently carry out need based humanitarian services
like blood donation camps, eye screening camps, diabetic detection camps,
tree plantation, road safety awareness, eye donation etc, the press release
said.
