'High cost of education drives medicos abroad'

        Many youngsters are moving to foreign countries to study medicine with the rapid increase in the cost of medical education in India, P C Kesavan Kutty Nayar, president, Medical Council of India (MCI) has said.

        Speaking at the commemorative function of the tenth anniversary of the inter- institutional alliance between Sri Ramachandra University and Harvard Medical International here on Friday, Kesavan said that by 2015 all countries except India, Brazil, Russia and China, there will be a deficient in health care facilities. By 2018, India will provide 32 per cent of human power to the world in the field of medicine, he said.

        'We need to generate effective modules, incorporate better tools for teaching and training of the medical professionals, which would ensure better quality in the education,' the MCI president said.

        Public Affairs Officer of US Consulate Frederick Kaplan said that great progress could be made in the field of medicine only if there is competence. Vice-Chancellor of Sri Ramachandra University S Rangaswami expressed hope for innovative programmes in education, clinical quality and research in collaboration with Harvard Medical International. A souvenir was released at the occasion.

        Sri Ramachandra University Chancellor VR Venkataachalam, chief executive director of Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre, Radha Venkataachalam, chief executive officer, Harvard Medical International Robert K Crone, vice-president of Sri Ramachandra Health International, Krishna Seshadri were among those participated.
