'CM not interested in TN and its people'

NT Bureau
Chennai, July 29:

AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa flayed Chief Minister M Karunanidhi for 'not using his influence' in the United Progressive Alliance government at the Centre to prevent Kerala from constructing a new dam across the Mullaiperiyar.

In a statement here yesterday, the AIADMK chief said Karunanidhi was able to bring the Prime Minister for the swearing-in of her daughter as a member of the Rajya Sabha.

'A Prime Minister participating in the swearing-in ceremony of a Rajya Sabha member is the first time in the history of India,' she said and wanted to know why Karunanidhi did not use his clout with the Centre to stop the proposed construction of a new dam by Kerala.

'This only shows that the Chief Minister is not interested in Tamilnadu and its people,' she alleged.

Jayalalithaa demanded that the DMK government file a fresh case in the Supreme Court to prevent Kerala from going ahead with its plan to build a new dam.

'The state government should take efforts to expedite existing cases in the apex court with regard to the Mullaiperiyar dam,' she said.

The AIADMK supremo also cautioned that her party would resort to agitation in a large scale, if the DMK government did not initiate efforts to halt Kerala from building a new dam.
