'Indians have proved themselves by making an impact on all aspects in the United States of America,' said Sree Sreenivasan, professor of Journalism, Columbia University and co-founder of South Asian Journalists Association (SAJA).
He was addressing a gathering on a talk on 'Desis changing America: Indian Americans and their impact on business, politics and culture' held in Chennai on Wednesday.
Sreenivasan further said Indians in America had proved themselves to such an extent that they had started playing a vital role in all fields.
Today, America is increasingly being represented by Indian Americans which was not the case a few years ago, he added.
He further said Indians can be a good bridge between India and America and can be helpful in improving relations between the two countries.
He said that Indra Nooyi, chairperson of PepsiCo, is a success story that shows how successful the Indians had been in US. Today, Indra Nooyi is one of the most respectful persons, he added.
Journalism play a crucial role in the United States. Sreenivasan further said journalism is one of the fields where Indians had shone and more Indians were playing a crucial role in the field.
Kamalendra Kanwar, eminent columnist, Ragini Gupta, cultural affairs officer, US Consulate General, Chennai, and P M Belliappa, president East West Centre Alumni Association, Chennai chapter, were also present on the occasion.
