Australian Institute of Sports (AIS) seized control of the semifinal match against Combined Districts and enhanced their chances of making the final of the Buchi Babu Memorial cricket tournament here, by taking a first innings lead of 197 runs on the second day yesterday.
In the other semifinal, Baroda were 109 for four in 52 in reply to Mumbai's first innings total of 340 for nine. In all, 190 minutes of play was lost due to rain and Baroda batsmen Pinal Shah and Shatrunjay Gaekwad made 28 each while Avishkar Salvi claimed 3 for 16.
In the first semifinal, AIS
medium pacer Ryan Harris and leg spinner Steve Smith claimed three wickets
each conceding 15 and 37 runs respectively. For the hosts, Subramaniya
Siva (48) and E Suresh (77 not out) were the main scorers. In reply, the
Aussies were 109 for 3 in just 13 overs with Brandon Drew (51) and Steve
