        A man who snatched a gold chain from a woman, who had come to attend a marriage function was chased and caught by members of the public at Thiruvottiyur here last night.

        According to police, Janaki had come from Puducherry with her brother to attend a wedding. At around 11 p.m yesterday when the two were walking on Vadivudaiamman Temple Street, a man came from behind and snatched her three-sovereign chain and ran. When she raised an alarm, members of the public and some of the marriage party chased the thief and caught him. Later, he was handed over to the police.

        Enquiries revealed that the chain-snatcher identified as Satheesh from the same area had various cases of waylaying pending against him.
