Education for women has improve: VC

Vice-Chancellor of Anna University D Viswanathan, speaking at the inaugural
function of an inter-collegiate commerce festival yesterday.

        Education among women has improved by leaps and bounds, especially in fields such as aviation and IT, vice chancellor of Anna University, D Viswanathan told a college event in Chennai.

        He stressed that India needs women of substance to carry her in the path of progress.

        'We need women of the calibre of Kalpana Chawla and Sunita Williams to make India count among the developed nations of the world,' he told the inter-collegiate commerce festival organised by the Guru Shree Shantivijai Jain College for Women, here yesterday.

        The vice chancellor also extolled students to show gratitude towards their parents, for their efforts in bringing up their wards against trying circumstances.

        In his advice to students he said, 'study early in the morning instead of late in the night to shine in your academic endeavours.'

        He also advised students to desist from using cell phones. According to him it would hinder the academic pursuit of ambitious students.

        Viswanathan also called on the students to inculcate a spirit of patriotism, towards their motherland.

        'Patriotism is a trait, which each one of you must cultivate within you for minimising the brain drain in the country.' he said.

        The vice chancellor also enumerated the various dimensions of success in a student's life.

        'Attitude, skill and knowledge coupled with an unceasing passion to succeed, will take you to the path of glory,' he said.
