EYE PLEASING: Renovated Selli Amman temple tank at Keelkattalai. |
Alandur Municipality staff is doing the wonderful work of clearing garbage almost every day, but there is lack of cooperation from the public at large as they throw litter indiscriminately.
This is the general opinion of some of the residents like T S Vaidyaraman of 10th Street in suburban Nanganallur. Besides, stray animals pull out the contents from the dustbins and scatter them around, presenting a shabby look, residents say.
To obviate the problem, why should not the Alandur municipality on a trial basis remove the garbages after 10 pm. And by this change of timing, they can not only remove them easily but also avoid spilling over of the garbages by others, feel the residents.
Of course, the Municipality has to pay extra for the garbage clearance at night.. In fact the staff which was doing the work need extra attention and sympathy from the administration as well as from the public.
A month's trial in change
of timing would benefit them and the public should also cooperate in this
regard, add residents.

Temple tank beautification
The renovation of Selli Amman Temple Tank at Keezhkattalai is a job well undertaken by the Pallavaram Municipality which spent Rs 13 lakh to restore its beauty.
Similarly, the citizens, major establishments, banks, hospitals, Rotary, Lions Clubs through their community service should come forward by extending a helping hand to the Alandur municipality to beautify the Ardhanareeswarar Temple tank, with a walkers path around and a well-maintained public toilet. As of now the tank serves the purpose of a garbage disposal yard. And an open storm water drain that is laid from 48th Street, Nanganallur, carries all kinds of plastic waste into the tank. The most essential water body has been turned into a garbage dump and it should be desilted and boundary as in Selli Amman tank should be constructed, feel residents.
There are also more than
10 commercial establishments sponsoring the project. And, T S Vaidyaraman,
a retired bank official, has expressed willingness to contribute Rs 1 lakh
through the help of like-minded people. Hope their efforts bear fruit.
