TVS Motor Company is all set to launch an electric bike by the end of this year in what may be considered an attempt to redefine the two-wheeler market in the country
Announcing the electric bike at a press conference on Thursday, Venu Srinivasan, CMD, TVS Motors, said the company would subsequently introduce two or three variants next year. Currently, TVS has plans to launch three variants, including a new model of TVS Star and an upgraded version of TVS Apache during this year end.
To improve its service levels in North India, TVS has set up a plant in Himachal Pradesh recently with an annual capacity of four lakh units which could be expanded up to six lakh units. The company also launched a 160cc Apache with 15.2 bhp on the occasion for the youth and a new variant under TVS Star brand.
For the year ended March 2007, the company recorded a growth of 19 per cent with total revenue at Rs 3,928 crore as compared to Rs 3,306 crore for the previous year.
TVS would enter into the
three-wheeler market in November and the products would be rolled out from
the Hosur plant. The company would open the Indonesian venture to come
out with two products initially.
