AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Blood and gore

(Apocalypto)

After tasting success in Brave Heart and Passion of the Christ, Mel Gibson has clearly got his priorities right as a director with Apocalypto.

The scenes in the film are gory but Gibson has managed instill the audience with enough rageful blood lust to make the story work. Dean Semler's excellent work behind the lens added sheen.

He has captured the action skills in an effective manner in the deep jungles.

The chase involving a jaguar is a visual delight.

The movie is set in Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula where the mighty Mayan city-States ruled supreme and took their pleasures from the land and surrounding peoples with no thought to consequence or brotherhood. They were rulers; everyone else was prey.

The movie revolves around Jaguar Paw, a youth, who lives happily with his kith and kin in a deep jungle.

But this is all about to end. One morning the Mayans arrive in force.

They catch hold of the inhabitants in the jungle and take away the captives with them. Since the Mayan State is rattled by plague they turn to human sacrifice.

But the hero, Jaguar Paw manages to escape and teach Mayan rulers a lesson.

Gibson has narrated the story in a gripping manner. But it is bloodshed and gore and violence all through.

A kind of Rambo film, Apocalypto would be a treat for action-lovers.
