AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

The lure of the lucre

(Inimay Nangadhan)

It is a full-length animated film with loads of entertainment. Providing a relief from commercial cliches, the first animated non-mythological film on international standards provides a different feel.

Produced by Sridevi and directed by Venki Baboo, the movie is made all the more engrossing with catchy musical score by Ilayaraja.

An entertainer for people of all age groups, it is a testimony to technical wizardry. The film is about Vichu, Varadhu, Vaithi and Govind, who earn their livelihood doing Kathakalakshepam.

They want to become rich and famous. They come across an elderly woman, who advises them to meet a Swamiji who, she tells them, would help them to become rich overnight. The Swamiji agrees to help them but on one condition — they should retrieve a holy Rudrakhsa necklace from Rakshasas who lives in a cave.

The four friends set out to the cave where they meet a colourful character from the sea, a gold palace, and of course, the Rakshasas too. Lured by wealth, the four friends split. What happens then forms the crux.

The dubbing to the lead characters by Pandu, Vasu Vikram, M S Baskar, and Maran is appropriate. Their voice modulation adds strength to the scenes.

Ilayaraja's music is top-class. The song Oru Murai Kettal rendered by Ilayaraja himself is soothing to the ears. Dialogues by Venky Baboo coupled with catchy depiction of the golden palace and encounter with Rakshahas deserve special mention.
