1,73,687 applicants for BE courses

As many as 1,73,687 applicants are eligible for the single-window counselling for the engineering courses offered by Anna University and its affiliated colleges.  

Anna University which is the nodal agency for Tamilnadu Engineering Admissions - 2014 (TNEA) has sold 2,12,374 applications. Of the submitted forms, 546 were duplicates.

In academic stream - 1,68,760 students have applied and in vocational stream - 4,927 have submitted the applications forms. As of now, there are 570 engineering colleges and around two lakh seats are available.

State Higher Education Minister P Palaniappan today released the random numbers for the applicants which would help arrive at ranks. The numbers were immediately uploaded in the university website. Candidates may view their random numbers by registering their application registration number on the website - www.annauniv.edu.

According to TNEA secretary V Rhymend Uthariaraj, the 10 digit random number will be utilised for the preparation of inter-se-merit where more than one candidate have got the same rank. The inter-se-merit among such candidates shall be determined in the order of priority such as (1) Percentage of mark in Mathematics, (2) Percentage of mark in Physics, (3) Percentage of mark in the fourth optional subject, (4) Date of birth (elder will be given preference) and (5) Random number assigned (higher value will be given preference), he said.

Anna University will release the rank list for TNEA on 16 June.  The two-day counselling for eminent sportspersons will start on 23 June and for differently-abled on 25 June. The counselling under general stream will commence on 27 June and will go on till 28 July. For vocational candidates, the counselling will be held from 9 July to 20 July.

Candidates under sports quota shortlisted Candidates who have applied for eminent sportsperson quota for admission in engineering colleges under single window counselling have been shortlisted and will be called for sports original certificates verification from 13 to 15 June at the Centre for Entrance Examinations and Admissions, Anna University.

According to a release from TNEA secretary, shortlisted candidates will be informed through SMS. In addition, the details like date and time of certificate verification will be available in Anna University website.

There are 500 seats under sports quota and 4,852 students have applied  this year. Under differently-abled category, 6,000 seats are available and 488 candidates have applied and for 150 seats under ex-servicemen category, 2,518 candidates have applied, officials said.
