The moving and inspiring spirit behind Hindu Dharmajagruthi Sabha taking place in Chennai is His Holiness Dr JAYANT BALAJI ATHAVALE. He established Sanatan Sanstha in 1990, with the blessings of his Sadguru, Saint Bhaktaraj. Dr Athavale was by profession a Consultant Clinical Hypnotherapist from Bombay. He undertook extensive research on Clinical Hypnosis both in India and overseas. He worked for seven years as a Clinical Hypnotherapist in Great Britain from 1971 to 1978. However, after practicing as a hypnotherapist for twenty years, he realized that nearly 30 per cent of his patients did not recover with the usual treatment regimens. On the contrary, many of those patients recovered fully after having gone on a pilgrimage, or having followed the spiritual advice of a Saint. Thus Dr Jayant Balaji Athavale came to the inescapable conclusion that there is another science far superior to physical and psychological medicine, and that was the science of Spirituality rooted in Sanatana Dharma.
Ploughing deeper and deeper into the field of Theory and Practice of Spirituality, Dr Jayant Athavale wrote 21 volumes on this subject with the objective of educating and guiding the humanity at large about their need to take to the sublime path and field of spirituality rooted in Sanatana Dharma. In 1988, Dr Athavale started conducting free of charge workshops on Spirituality in the city of Mumbai. In 1990, with the blessings of his Sadguru, Saint Bhaktaraj of Indore, he founded the ‘Sanatan Bharatiya Sanskruti Sanstha’ so as to facilitate the spread of Spirituality. Later he renamed it as ‘Sanatan Sanstha’. The main aim of the organization is to present Spirituality in a scientific language for the curious (jidnyasu) and to guide the seekers of God. Dr Athavale has worked tirelessly in the field of Spirituality to share with humanity the findings of his research into the deeper understanding of the Spiritual dimension using a scientific approach. In order to achieve this end, he has published more than 1.6 million copies of spiritual books in 11 languages like Hindi, Marathi, Kannada, Gujarati, English and other languages during the last 7 years. His work has been recognized by Hindu Saints and Sages belonging to all denominations.
There are Hindu Newsletters/Periodicals called SANATAN PRABHAT, promoted by Sanatana Sansthan in several languages like Marathi (Daily and Weekly), Kannada (Weekly), Hindi (Monthly), Gujarati (Monthly) and English (Monthly). These periodicals are making the Hindus of India aware of the unwarranted and unprovoked attacks on Hindu religion and Hindu culture being made by the forces of global Islam, global Christianity, Marxism, Nehruvian Congress pseudo-secularism and rabidly materialistic Western culture (un-culture!!). These anti-Sanatana Dharma forces are treating only the pursuit of unabashed and uncontrolled sex on the one hand and endless race for filthy lucre on the other, as the main idols/Gods to be worshipped everyday with earnestness within the family, and outside in the work place, social and public life. These very values (or non-values!) are being commercially promoted for 24 hours a day through the English Print and Electronic Media (TV Channels). To counter this onslaught, Hindus are becoming increasingly aware of the imperative need for creating a new NATIONAL MOVEMENT to uphold the traditional social, ethical and cultural values rooted in SANATANA DHARMA. Thanks to Dr Jayant Balaji Athavale’s inspiring and fearless leadership, there has been a remarkable upsurge of new awakening among the Hindus of India.

Thousands of Hindus of India, through social, cultural and spiritual contacts, came together on 13 October 2002 and created a wholly mobile, elastic, flexible, practical and pragmatic public platform called HINDU JANAJAGRUTI SAMITHI (HJS) to bring the Hindus of India together on the same platform by organizing Hindu Dharmajagruthi Sabhas (Hindu New Renaissance Conferences) in different parts of India. 116 such massive Conferences have so far been conducted by HJS in the States of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Goa, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana, U.P., Jharkhand, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh. Thousands of Hindus have participated in these Hindu Awakening Conferences with commitment, conviction, gusto and enthusiasm.
 | | 12,000 devout Hindus present at Hindu Dharmajagruti Sabha, Barshi in Maharashtra |
A massive Hindu Dharmajagruti Sabha was organised on 6 February, 2008 by HJS at Barshi (Maharashtra). 12,000 devout Hindus attending the ‘Hindu Dharmajagruti Sabha’ agreed that condition of Hindu Dharma is very bad due to denigration of Hindu deities, anti-Hindu laws, attacks on processions taken out by Hindus; killings of Hindus in Kashmir; and they made a resolve that henceforth, no devout Hindu would tolerate such things. At that meeting organized by Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) on the grounds of Sree Bhagavant Mandir at Barshi, all the VIPs and dignitaries invited for the meeting, strongly attacked the criminal activities taking place against the innocent and peace-loving Hindus. Members of the audience motivated by the spiritual atmosphere and fervent speeches made by the guests raised patriotic slogans hailing Hindu Dharma.
One of the men from the media who attended the Hindu Dharmajagruti Sabha at Barshi wrote: “HJS has been organizing ‘Hindu Dharmajagruti Sabha’ in various places in the State for creating awareness among Hindus towards importance of ‘Dharma-shikshan’ and ‘Dharmacharan’, for uniting Hindus and re-establishing supremacy of Hindu Dharma. Today’s meeting, which was a unification of ‘kshatra-teja’ and ‘Brahma-teja’, was a memorable experience for people from Barshi”.
The 117th HINDU DHARMAJAGRUTHI SABHA, organized by HINDU JANAJAGRUTI SAMITI (HJS), is taking place at Chennai on the 19 April 2009. The main objective of these Conferences is to create a feeling of unity and fraternal solidarity amongst all the Hindus, cutting across different sects and sub-sects and to create a new sense of awareness of the relevance, greatness and significance of Sanatana Dharma. In order to achieve this objective, the focus will be on specially designed programmes to raise the levels of public enlightenment relating to the Vedas, Upanishads, Brahma Sutras, Bhagawad Gita and other Hindu scriptures.
In all the 116 Hindu Dharmajagruti Sabhas organized so far by HJS in different parts of India, all the participating Hindus have been continuously raising these fundamental questions: Are we Hindus helpless refugees in our own ancestral HOMELAND? Is it not our inalienable, indivisible, inexorable and immutable birth right to demand the creation of a Hindu Nation? Why should each one of us (each self-respecting Hindu) be ashamed or afraid of declaring from the housetop that I am a political Hindu, a cultural Hindu, a spiritual Hindu, an economic Hindu, a nationalist Hindu, an internationalist Hindu and above all a cosmopolitan Hindu? Thanks to these Hindu Dharmajagruti Sabhas, more and more Hindus are becoming aware of the terrible fact that Sanatana Dharma, Hindu Religion, Hindu Society, Hindu culture and Hindu ethos are under the siege and assault of certain lethal international (!) forces today. The whole of India is getting converted into a ‘Nazi Land’ of pseudo-secularism with a clearly defined and declared agenda for the decimation and destruction of Sanatana Dharma, Hindu Society and Hindu culture.
Throughout his brief but momentous life, Swami Vivekananda (1863-1902), proclaimed—loudly, clearly, consistently and heroically—the fact that ‘WE HINDUS ARE A NATION’. At the inaugural session of the Parliament of Religions at Chicago in 1893, he began by saying ‘I thank you in the name of millions and millions of Hindu people in all classes and sects’. Then he spoke three sentences which were most significant. First he said: “I am proud to belong to a Religion which has taught the World both tolerance and universal acceptance”. In the Second sentence he said: ‘I am proud to belong to a Nation which has sheltered the persecuted and the refugees of all Religions and all Nations on the Earth’. In the Third sentence, Swamiji said: ‘I am proud to belong to a Religion which has sheltered and is still fostering the remnants of Zorostrian Nation’. In these sentences, Swami Vivekananda proclaimed his pride of belonging first ‘to a Religion’, second ‘to a Nation’, and third ‘to a Religion’.
Thus we can see that Swami Vivekananda used the words ‘RELIGION’ and ‘NATION’ as synonymous terms. No pseudo-secularist politician in India today can have any doubt about what Religion or Nation Swamiji was talking about and what his perception of Nationhood was. Swami Vivekananda was emphatically clear that the essential feature of Hindu Nationhood was the Hindu Religion, the ‘SANATANA DHARMA’. In short, he was only declaring “WE HINDUS ARE A NATION”. I have no doubt that the Hindu Dharmajagruti Sabha being organized by HJS at Chennai day after tomorrow (19th April 2009, Sunday) will succeed in communicating this eternal message of Swami Vivekananda to the Hindus of the World. HINDUS OF THE WORLD UNITE! U HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE BUT YOUR CHAINS!!
