Major fire at Red Hills godown

Chennai: Lakhs of rupees worth furniture were destroyed in a major fire which broke out in a warehouse at Red Hills this morning.

The storehouse located in Kattaboman Street, was run by Gangsant (51) of Purasawalkam for the past three years. In the wee hours, locals noticed smoke puffing out of the warehouse and alerted the fire department.

Four fire engines from Madhavaram, Ambattur, Red Hills and Vyasarpadi were rushed to the spot with 30 firefighters.

The fire was put out in less than two hours. On preliminary investigation, police found that a short circuit inside the storehouse has sparked the fire. A case has been registered with the Red Hills police station.
