Chennai: Vellore Cricket Club celebrated the completion of its eightieth year recently. P M Belliappa presided over the function. He recalled his association with the town since 1959. Lauding the club for its achievements, he pointed out that it is for the next generation of players to take the club to the next level.
P S Subrahmanian, former captain of the club traced the history of the VCC. C R Vijayaraghavan, former vice president of the Tamilnadu Cricket Association, recalled the substantial contributions made by the club to the State. He pointed out that Mr N Sampath of Vellore Cricket Club, was instrumental in institutionalising the district forum which paved the way for several youngsters from small towns to make a mark at various levels.
C R Vijayaraghavan also released a special souvenir containing articles and photographs and a compilation on the town itself. A presentation on the Club was the highlight of the evening. The function concluded with the vote of thanks by Pattabhiraman, the chief organiser of the function. The club honoured a few veteran cricketers on the occasion.
