Chennai: Walking into Thendral Nagar, in the locality of Ambathur in the city, it is not hard to notice the amount the garbage piled up on the road and outside houses. The reason is that there is no proper waste management system, complain residents.
“Natraj Street, Saren Street and Kamaraj Street in the areas are filled with garbage which is dumped at the end of the streets. There is a need for garbage bins in the area. The waste keeps piling up causing inconvenience to residents. There are only a handful of dustbins,” said Raja a resident of Natraj Street.
Residents said that the garbage truck sometimes skip these areas. ”The trucks come to certain places. They just collect the garbage from the bins but never bother to pick up waste lying on the road,” said Jagan, a resident of the area.
“The garbage truck comes at odd hours making it difficult for us. They do not pick up the garbage which I leave outside the house. They skip these streets somedays which increases the amount of garbage.” he added.
The roads in the area are very messy and show the lack of concern from the authorities, it is alleged. Residents demand immediate action to be taken by civic officials. ”There is so much of garbage dumped near my house and it keeps piling up and the stench is unbearable.” said a resident of Patel Street. ”Atleast they should clear the piled up garbage which has been there for more a week,” he added. Thendral Nagar needs immediate attention from the Corporation authorities.
