Three persons owing allegiance to filmmaker Seeman’s ‘Naam Thamizhar’ outfit have been arrested in connection with last night’s hurling of bombs at Congress leader and former Union Minister EVKS Elangovan’s house here in Adyar.
.
Police said they pelted petrol bombs at the Congress leader’s residence as he had removed posters and banners eulogising LTTE leader V Prabhakaran in Erode yesterday.

Three petrol bombs were hurled at Elangovan’s Adyar residence late last night. The attack came hours after the former Union Minister tore down some posters of the slain LTTE leader at Erode.

Elangovan was not present in the house when the petrol bombs were hurled, police said, adding some furniture was damaged in the incident.

The Congress leader, known for his hardline stand against LTTE for its involvement in the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, told reporters today that he was not bothered about the violence unleashed against him.

‘I will be happy even I am killed for my stand against terrorism. We have already lost precious leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi to terrorism.

Thousands of innocent people have also been killed,’ he said. Urging strict action against those who came out with posters hailing the leader of the banned outfit, Elangovan accused Erode Police Superintendent Jayachandran of abusing him with harsh language.

‘When I spoke to him over phone seeking acting against those supporting the LTTE, he addressed me in first person and abused me. I will meet Chief Minister M Karunanidhi soon and discuss with him about the issue,’ he said.

Meanwhile, Tamilnadu Congress Committee president K V Thangkabalu and Congress Floor Leader in Assembly D Sudharsanam today called on the Chief Minister and urged him to initiate stringent action against those involved in violence in front of Elangovan’s house.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Thangkabalu said the Chief Minister had assured them prompt action and the police had arrested three persons in this regard.

On Friday, Congressmen led by Elangovan protested in Erode demanding removal of Prabhakaran’s pictures pasted in connection with ‘Maaveerar Dhinam’ observed by LTTE supporters.
