Nagereshu Kanchi, said saint poet Kalidas. In colloquial terms, it means most beautiful and blissful town is Kancheepuram. Anyone who witnessed the Garuda Sevai of Sri Varadharaja Perumal temple here today, as part of the annual Brahmotsavam, would readily agree.

This morning, the processional deity of Lord Varadharaja Perumal Swamy was taken out on Garuda Vahanam (third day of the annual temple festival), witnessed by thousands of devotees drawn from various parts of the State.
Lord Varadharaja was beautifully decked up and was draped in rose- coloured silk cloth. The temple doors were opened at around 2.30 a.m and devotees thronged the vahana mandapam to seek His blessings. Special poojas were performed amidst chanting of vedic hymns.
At around 4 a.m, the the processional deity on Garuda Vahanam was taken out around the temple amidst chanting of Narayana. At 5 am, the procession stepped out of the temple only to be greeted with glee by those gathered to have His darshan.
Annadhanam and distribution of buttermilk were organised as part of the celebrations.
Meanwhile, the district police had made elaborate security arrangements under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Prem Anandh Sinha and DSP Rajendran.
Devotees were made to enter through special barricades and temporary doors put up by the police at the entrance of the temple.
