City Police Commissioner in-charge Sanjay Arora today appealed to general public not to purchase two- wheelers without proper documents as there were cases of stolen vehicles being sold in the city. Speaking to reporters, Sanjay said the public can report the matter to the police in case the seller promises to provide the documents at a later date.

He said the youth involved in road racing were allegedly selling the bikes of the losers and sharing the amount with the winners. He said the police have detained 18 bike racers from Marina and Elliots Beach for rash driving yesterday. The Commissioner in-charge said that they have cracked four cases and seized 175 sovereign gold jewels and Rs 20.52 lakh in cash. He said nine persons were arrested in connection with a waylaying case in which a businessman was looted a sum of Rs 22 lakh near Guindy race course yesterday. A former employee Azaruddin of Maduvankarai who was aware of the victim’s business collection committed the offence. The arrested were Azarudiin, Anandan, Basha, Vasanth, Raja, Raji, Vijay and Dorairaj and Tameem Ansari. They have recovered Rs 20 lakh from the gang. Briefing about another case in Foreshore Estate, he said a seven- member gang from Andhra Pradesh, which was involved in sarees theft were arrested from Mylapore and 73 sarees were seized from them. The arrested were Durga, Subhashini, Rajammal, Rani, Prasad, Surendra Kumar and Jayabala Srinivasarao.
