The exhibition held on 6 and 7 September was inaugurated by Indian classical and contemporary dancer and choreographer Anita Ratnam on the campus of Pearl Academy. The show by the undergraduate students displayed various patterns of creative design in the form of handmade patterns of artefacts. Foundation Studies' head of the department Ranjan De said the patterns designed by the first year students were part of their visual skills and asymmetric drawing patterns. He said that designs carry a visual illusion of two-dimensional patterns and all articles are handmade conceptualising designs with material exploration. He said that the pallets on the design depict various human emotions and mood with a fine composition of colour and pattern as per psychologist Rorschach's 'Ink Blot Test'. The exhibition showcased showpieces like cubes in asymmetric patterns made of polyeurethene foam sheets forming a composite whole and other small articles made of papiermache. Funky designs of mask mould boots and a hat made of papiermache added uniqueness to the display. Handmade designs of outfits, jewellery, lamps, torn sheets of a book made of steel and various other patterns of designs exploring materials were showcased. Students of third year- level depicted various designs of evening outfits for women and children. The designs were part of twin projects followed by process book, technical file and portfolio conceptualised through brain storming, mind mapping and research layouts. Garments inspired by animation and fictional characters, stone and mud- washed men garments, shell and eye- patterned casual outfits for women with floral prints added shine to the exhibition. The exhibition also showcased exclusive collection of designer outfits by past students of the academy depicting various emotions and stages of life. |
