The fluidly strokes and the lively colors exhibit the luminescence of the flame that is still burning in them. But then, how do these men of steel earn a living out of their skill, a question resolved with exemplifying genius by the Indian Chapter of the Mouth and Foot Painting Artists Association (MFPA).
The association has instituted a mailer system through which people all around the country are sent art products compiled by the members of MFPA. The art products comprise a set of greeting cards, bookmarks and tags. The recipient if interested in these art products can either buy them or return them back to the organisation.
'The revenue yielded from this initiative earns an honourable living for the artists who toil day and night in creating these exquisite and intricate artworks,' says an assistant professor at National College of Design Ben Philip.
The artists at MFPA are all handicapped and make use of their mouth or their feet to produce creative art pieces. 'Their dedication to the profession in spite of the disability is worth mentioning and is exemplary in every sense,' says Mohan, a resident of Villivakkam and a receiver of the MFPA mailer.
'Artists selected to be part of MFPA earn a regular monthly salary, giving us freedom, independence and a secure livelihood. We are all physically disabled, but are artistically empowered through MFPA," says a member artist of MFPA.
'Art redefines the sanctity and purity of one's mind and soul' --- a statement that is ascertained by the lively aura of the paintings done by these artists. A simple mailer - a building unit in a life of creative freedom and independence is proof enough of the fact that 'where there is a will there is a way'.
