Debutant Dillon Du Preez's three-wicket burst and a fine performance on the field by the Royal Challengers were undone by opener Jayasuriya's 52 off 43 balls and the late blitzkrieg of 66-run partnership for the fifth-wicket between Bravo (50 off 40 balls) and Nayar (29 from 20).
     
South African Preez (3/32), who made his IPL debut today, sent the Mumbai Indians top-order packing, picking up three quick wickets.
     
The 27-year-old right-arm fast medium bowler first accounted for the dangerous Sachin Tendulkar, who was looking to cut loose with a couple of sweetly timed boundaries.

The Mumbai Indians skipper chased a widish delivery and the thick edge flew to Rahul Dravid at slip, who didn't make any mistake. Dravid, who returned to the side after the birth of his second child, was given catching practice the very next ball when Ajinkya Rahane guided Preez's outgoing delivery to the slip.
     
With Preez gunning for a hat-trick, JP Duminy survived a leg before appeal but perished in the South African's very next over.Left-handed Duminy went for a mighty heave but the ball kissed the inside edge of the bat and Mark Boucher took a low catch behind stumps.

While Preez was rocking Mumbai, Jacques Kallis and Praveen Kumar did their job to keep the opponents in shackles with a tight line and length.
    
It was left to Jayasuriya to give Mumbai some freedom. He decided to launch into Preez, hitting him for a boundary and six off successive deliveries.

It was the 39-year-old Jayasuriya's lusty hitting that gradually helped Mumbai Indians find their feet. He, along with Dwayne Bravo, accelerated the innings with a 53-ball 60 in which the bulk of the scoring was done by the Sri Lankan.
    
However, Jayasuriya fell trying to step on the gas. The Sri Lankan tried to hit RE van der Merwe's first ball over the ropes only to hole out at square leg. His 43-ball 52 contained six boundaries and a six.
    
Nayar then stepped in and with Bravo put on 66 runs in 34 balls for the fifth wicket. West Indian Bravo's 40-ball 50 was studded with one four and two sixes while Nayar hit four boundaries in his 29 that came off 20 balls.

Together, they helped Mumbai Indians score close to 100 runs in the last 10 overs after the team was 53 for three at the half-way mark.
