Sri Lankan off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan becomes first bowler to take 800 wickets in Test cricket. The 38-year-old spin maestro - who needed eight scalps at the start of the match to reach 800 - reached the historic landmark with the wickets of Harbhajan Singh and Pragyan Ojha on the final day of the first Test against India in Galle.
.

Playing the final Test of his career, the veteran off-spinner had made his task all the more easier over the course of the previous four days, picking up six Indian wickets to help set up a fitting end to a glorious 19-year Test career.

Murali's record feat also signalled the end of the tourists' innings as they were all out for 338, having resumed the final day on 181 for five.

India led by 94 runs following-on in response to Sri Lanka's first innings total of 520.
