Somerset captain, Alfonso Thomas led from the front to ensure that his bunch of spirited cricketers made it to the semi-final of the Nokia CLT20. Thomas bowled the all important 19th over in which he picked up two wickets for two runs as a result of which the Warriors needed an impossible 21 runs from the final over. |

During the post-match interaction with the media, Thomas, who was also named the man of the match, reasoned the various decisions he made on the field. On his decision to bat first, he said, 'I always thought that in a game like this, if we can get a decent score on the board it's always going to be difficult to chase down as there's a lot of pressure with the spot in the semi-final at stake. But I have to admit that when Peter Trego got out off a delivery with a bit of bounce, I thought it would've been a better idea to bowl first. But as the game progressed, the ball turned, bounced and gripped more. We were sure that we had made the right decisions and that our slower bowlers will do the job for us, which they did. As far as the score goes, we thought we were some 10 runs short but we made up for that with our fielding.' On Craig Kieswetter's knock, he said, ' It was fantastic. When Craig came up with that knock, I told myself that it could be the difference between the two sides and it was. He showed a lot of maturity... which has come from playing for England. I was a little disappointed that he didn’t get to showcase his talent in the washed out game. But this was his first innings and he showed that on a given day he can make any fielding captain's worst nightmare come true.' |
