‘Remakes are the trend now. But one has to be careful and ensure that the charm of the original is not spoiled’, says director Dayalan, who is wielding the megaphone for the remake of yesteryear Tamil hit Palaivana Solai.

.

One of the trend-setting movie in Tamil film industry, Palaivana Solai, a tale of five friends, was directed by Robert Rajasekar in 1981. It featured Rajeev, Janakaraj, Vagai Chandrasekhar, Thyagu and Suhasini in the cast.

In the new version titled the same, Nithin Sathya, Karthika, Abhinay, Chaama and Sathyan play prominent roles.

Says Dayalan, ‘a fresh screenplay is being written based on the original story. We believe that the film will surely woo the present generation.

‘We have made some minor changes and did not tamper with the original. I should thank my producers Vadivel of Maruthi Films and Radhakrishnan, without whose support the movie could not have been completed.’

Dayalan, a former associate of director K S Ravikumar, has completed the shooting just 37 days. ‘We planned well in advance and executed it accordingly,’ he informed.

Bobby of Sollamaley-fame has scored the music. A couple of songs from the original Megamae and Aalanaalum Aalu have been remixed. Vairamuthu has penned all the five songs, he said.

Nithin Sathya has been cast in the role enacted by Chandrasekar, while  Karthika is playing Suhasini’s role. Abhinay replaces Rajeev, Chaama is in Janakaraj’s role and Sathyan is in place of Thiyagu.

‘All my artistes co-operated well and the movie has come really good, Dayalan says and adds, ‘we have changed the climax which would appeal to the contemporary audience.’

On his part, Nithin Sathya said, ‘I watched the movie several times. Hope we have live up to the expectation of the audience’.
