Being made simultaneously in Tamil and Hindi (Ravana), the film has musical score by A R Rahman. It has been in the making for over six months and has been shot in places like Kerala, Jhansi, Pollachi and much recently Kodaikanal. The Tamil version also features Prabhu, Karthik, Ranjitha and Priyamani in key roles. Abhishek Bachchan is the hero in the Hindi version. Buzz is that the movie is based on an episode from Ramayana.
Vikram has expressed his delight being part of a Mani Rathinam movie. In a recent interview, Vikram has said, ‘in my career spanning over a decade, I have played varied roles and worked with several directors. Ashokavanam is one of the memorable movies of my career and the role I play is very close to my heart.
‘Working with a genius like Mani Rathinam and dancing for music scored by A R Rahman is a dream come true for me.’
