Stating that lack of cohesion among the ruling LDF during Lok Sabha polls in Kerala was the main reason for its defeat, CPI-M State Secretary Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday asked its constituent parties to project a unified face to strengthen the Front.

'The CPI-M acknowledges that lack of cohesion among LDF constituent parties during polls,to a larger extend, affected its poll prospects and should take serious lessons from the setback by projecting a united face,' he said addressing a public meeting here after giving away funds to families of partymen killed in political clashes in the district. Taking the poll reversal as a major lesson, LDF would take steps to ensure unity among the Front members by ensuring that no party hurled open statements against the another, Vijayan said. However, the CPI-M leader ruled out having any patch up with the Veerendrakumar led JD(S) faction saying that those who disagreed with the estranged ally were welcome to join hands with the LDF. Just before the parliamentary elections, the JD(S) state council had unanimously resolved not to support the LDF after the Front refused to allot the Kozhikode seat to it. He criticised the opposition Congress led UDF and a section of media for unleashing misinformation campaign against CPI-M leadership and the LDF government. No one could ever write off the LDF owing to its setback in the Lok Sabha polls, he said. Stating that Congress could garner an additional nine lakh votes in the Lok Sabha polls, compared to the previous one, Vijayan claimed that the BJP's vote share this time had gone down by 7.50 lakh paving way for the victory of UPA. 'The Third Front floated by the CPI-M failed to click at the national level as a section of Muslims in Kerala, who used to side with the Left parties, opted to vote for the UPA to prevent the BJP from coming to power,' Vijayan said. He said the Congress led UPA government, which had to take outside support of the Left parties during its previous tenure, has now begun to take anti-people measures with Petroleum Minister Murli Deora announcing the moves to deregulate the petroleum prices. |
