‘It is upto them to decide. They know when to take it and where to take it. They always take right decisions’, TNCC president K V Thangkabalu told reporters here on Tuesday. A section of Congress cadres feel that the time is just perfect to ‘fulfill their longtime wish’ to be part of the State Cabinet as the ruling DMK is now depending heavily on the support of the Congress, with two long years left to complete its five-year run. Also the Congress has given three Cabinet berths and four Minister of State to their ally at the Centre. Recently, Congress floor leader D Sudarsanam expressed optimism that their leader Sonia Gandhi and Tamilnadu Chief Minister would take a ‘positive decision’ soon. On condition of anonymity, a Congress leader said, ‘soon a section of Congress MLAs would be inducted in the State Ministry. Our MLAs and leaders of our party have been urging the high command to be part of the State Cabinet. Karunanidhi too had said a few days back that he would be ready to allot Ministerial berths to Congress if the party’s leadership put forth such a demand. Since a demand is now being made, we hope the day is not far off when our party would be joining the Ministry’. Ever since the DMK assumed power in 2006 with the support of Congress, PMK and Communist MLAs, it has been a demand of the national party to get berths in the State Cabinet. Interestingly the demand gained momentum, with no other party apart from the Congress supporting the DMK government now and the UPA regime in the Centre too is not depending much on the DMK after the elections. ‘We have been unconditionally supporting the State government for the last three years. Obviously we need to be rewarded,’ a section of Congress men felt. |
