Reliance Webstore Ltd, the retail venture of Reliance ADA group, has taken up the marketing of dual-mode smart phones called Coolpad 2938 that has a range of high-tech features.
The market roll-out of Coolpad brand of smart phones was part of a strategic agreement signed between Reliance Webstore and Coolpad that marks the foray of the latter in the Indian market for these high-end mobile phones.

These smart phones would leverage Reliance’s presence in both CDMA and GSM services in the mobile telephone market. Speaking at a press meet in Chennai on Wednesday, Coolpad managing director Sami Al-Lawati said the company has made an impact in the Chinese market with its range of smart phones catering to the high-end sales. ‘Our partnership with Reliance Webstore will help us reach out to high-end consumers in Tamilnadu. In the next three months, we have plans to roll out four new models of smart phones with an objective to attain leadership position in this market,’ he said. The company has an R&D unit in Shenzen in China with employed nearly 1,000 engineers. With a network of 2,300 retail outlets, Reliance Webstore would enable Coolpad to reach out to potential customers across 700 cities and towns in the country. ‘We are making a foray into the Indian market by entering into this agreement with Reliance. In Tamilnadu, the smart phones will be available in 24 shops of Reliance Web World and 134 Reliance Mobile Stores,’ he said. The entry of Reliance Communications into the mobile telecom sector had changed the industry landscape, said its Tamilnadu Circle head V G Somasekhar. ‘We have targeted a subscriber base of 10 crore by March 2010 across the country,’ he said. Further, he said the company’s tariff was technology neutral and handsets were easily accessible at reasonable prices.
The company would market smart phones of Coolpad at ‘disruptive price points with a high value proposition, said Rajeev Chandravally, head of TN Circle at Reliance Webstore Ltd. He said the strategy was to escalate the mass adoption of smart phones in Tamilnadu and the company was hopeful that Coolpads would contribute 30 per cent of its overall handset sales in the state. |
