M Ranganathan, professor and head of the department of Commerce, University of Madras, was the chief guest.
The commissionerate honoured the top assessees, who have contributed in a major way towards revenue and industrial growth.

The recipients of the award were Asia Tobacco Limited (ATC), Hosur, Samsung India Private Ltd, etc. Ranganathan gave away the awards to the achievers.

The program also rewarded few of the most sincere and good employees for their matchless sincere duty towards the government.  

Chennai Zone’s Chief Commi-ssioners J M Shanti Sundaram, G V Naik, Commissioners Satya Vir Singh (Chennai 1), B Hareram (Chennai 4) and other officials of the Chennai zone office were present on the occasion.
