General Electric (GE) India, would like to have a larger manufacturing footprint in India to remain competitive. Besides, it would also participate in the multi-billion dollar Railway locomotive project, said John L Flannery, president and CEO, GE India.

Speaking at a function organised by the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce (IACC) in Chennai on Wednesday, he said, ‘India provides a huge opportunity for us. We need to make more investment in local suppliers and in manufacturing system to have long-term benefit and in high quality job creation’. ‘Currently, we don’t have a large manufacturing foot print in India. We really need to do that to be more competitive here in the long-term,’ he said GE Electric was given the IACC-Sanmar Indo-US Business Cooperation Award on the occasion. He further added that the company needs more investment in local supplies and in their own manufacturing capabilities that can bring some cost benefits in growing the position and help the country in large investment and job creation. The Indo-American Chamber of Commerce and the Chennai-based Sanmar Group jointly presented the award in recognition of GE’s contribution to Indian industry and country’s economy over a century. Usha Srinivasan, chairperson, Indo-American Chamber of Commerce, Tamilnadu Branch, Andrew T Simkin, US Consul General in Chennai, Adil Zainulbhai, managing director, McKinsey and Co, India, and Syed Baderuddin, National president of Indo-American Chamber of Commerce were also present at the function.
