Consulate General of Japan, Chennai and Indo Cine Appreciation Foundation (ICAF) are organising a Japanese film festival on 11, 12 and 14 August 2009 at South India Film Chamber theatre in Chennai.

The festival will be inaugurated by Kazuo Minagawa, Consul General, Consulate General of Japan, Chennai on 11 August. 

The guests of honour on the occasion would be C Kamaraj, director, Information and Public Relations, Government of Tamilnadu and R Veeramani, chairman, Gem Granite Group of Companies. Actress Anu Haasan will take part.

Some of the movies to be screened at the festival include Always - Sunset On Third Street, Rashomon, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time  and Lind, Linda, Linda.

Always - Sunset On Third Street is directed by Takashi Yamazaki while Rashomon is directed by Akira Kurosawa. The Girl Who Leapt Through Time is an animation movie made in 2006 by Mamoru Hosoda.
