SRM varsity finishes on top in Volleyball

Chennai: SRM University defeated Indian Bank in a hard-fought final to win the men's title in the Jones Foundations 23rd State-level volleyball tournament organised by Vollys Club here yesterday.

It was a close match in the first two sets before the SRM lads stepped up the pace to run out winners. The scoreline read: 25-20, 21-25, 25-19, 25-23

The winners took home the 'Vasanth Trophy' and cash prize of Rs 40,000.

R Rajarathnam, State Public Prosecutor, Madras High Court, H Vasanth Kumar, president, Vollys Club and M Nirmal Kumar, secretary, Vollys Club, gave away the prizes.

Income Tax finished third followed by Panimlar Engineering College.

Awards: Best Player : Men: Nirmal (Indian Bank); Women: Anila (SRM University).

Promising Player: Men: Sabarirajan (Panimlar Engg. College);

Women: Jolsna (Jeppiar EC).
