In a surprising move, debut producer Kannan (a NRI distributor of Tamil films in Australia) has roped in his good friend and Hollywood actor Andrew to don a villain's role in Vilayattu.
The movie is to be directed by Ezhilvendhan, who plays a lead role. Ezhil was assistant to cinematographer R Selva.
Andrew shot to fame in the movies Dreamscape and Schindler's List. The cheerful looking Andrew was here in Chennai on a promotional shoot. What were the his first impressions of Chennai?
'I like India steeped in traditions and a culture of its own. I felt at home in Chennai, so warm and affectionate were the unit welcoming a foreigner.
To be in the garb of a traditional attire like dhoti and shirt gave the fulfilment to my character.' How did Andrew manage tying the dhoti? Kannan had a hearty laugh before spilling out the beans that 'the actor perfected it after studious practice.'
Shooting has begun in Chennai with the songs to be canned abroad. Scouting of location is on, said Ezhilvendan. Of the package, he would ideally like to wrap it with love, sentiment and commercial flavour.
The other credits are: Jasse Gift (music); T Kannan (cinematography); Vinod (art); Run Ravi (stunt); Dinesh-Sridhar-Nobel (dance) and Palani Bharathi-Yuga Bharathi-Snehan (lyrics).
