Enjoying the best phase

Autograph turned out to be Sneha's signature film in Tamil. The movie showcased her ability to be part of meaningful cinema. In a role calling for lot of application devoid of make-up, the look-alike of yesteryear star T R Rajakumari, played her part to perfection in a touching and poignant moment of the movie.

Sneha
Sneha brought plenty of cheers round with her impromptu act goading the visually challenged to put in their best. The crowning moment was when Cheran placed Sneha's work as the cornerstone of the movie's phenomenal success. Post Autograph, Sneha did not go on a signing spree, as one would have expected. Glamour is not taboo for her, as many are inclined to believe. 'When I slip into a character, the audience should not see a Sneha there. Glamour is fine in songs where I have experimented many costumes. Songs are only a diversion, more as a relief to the heaviness of the story. Having earned a reputation over the years, the feedback is clear that I stick to homey characters.'

The quick impact she had on the Telugu audience and the Nandi award to boot will fall in the well-earned category. Sneha saw it as a victory for the character - as the obedient Radha to Gopalan in an advocate's role. 'Could smell the instant ticket to fame in the way director Babu moulded the character. The role looked fine to get a toe-hold in Telugu but the State government award has given a new meaning to my career.'

A solitary release in Tamil last year - as a harlot in Pudupettai she did leave an impression - Sneha is not game for the numbers. 'When the script is a winner, there is nothing else you have to look for. My next movie in Tamil (Pallikudam) falls in that category. When Thangar Bachchan spelled out the script, had already visualised myself to be a teacher.'

The other good catch for Sneha is in among the five-support to the pivotal character in Nan Avanillai. 'K Balalchander's script was much ahead of its time. Never expected of a remake and a prime slot.'

Keeping her fingers crossed of a National award is Sneha for that peach of a role in Sree Ramadas. 'Getting a congratulatory call from the well known actress Sowcar Janaki made my day. Such acts go a long way to pump you up for greater things.'

Sneha's optimism was not misplaced, having enjoyed the best phase, after that gentle warm-up in Anandam.
