Chennai: With heavy inflow into Stanley Reservoir, it is reported that Mettur dam would reach its full capacity of 120 ft for a second time tonight.
Biligundlu, where the Cauvery water flow is measured on the Tamilnadu side, was 1,40,00 cusecs this morning, according to reports.
This is due to excess water being discharged from the Kabini and Krishnarajasagar dam in the upper riparian State of Karnataka.
This has water gushing into the Mettur dam. According to the measurements recorded this morning, the water level stood at 119.08 ft in the dam.
The dam was now holding 92.1 tmc ft of water. Inflow into the dam stands at 88,843 cusecs and outflow, 60,000 cusecs.
As it is continuing to rain in the catchment areas of the Cauvery, more water inflow is expected into the dam, making it reach its full capacity.
Villagers living along the Cauvery banks were given flood warning from last night and asked to move to safer places.
