Chennai: Ever since Virtual Reality (VR) came into being and people were just an app and a device away to immerse themselves into a whole new world, our desire to explore its possibilities knew no bounds.

Yet here in India, VR market is rising at a snail’s pace mainly due to its cost and because very few industries are adopting it.

Enter ‘Nutpam’ – Chennai’s very own VR firm that offers products and services to varied clients from industry to education and from medical to automotive sector. Started by Senthil Sarguru in 2016, he narrates how he fell in love with VR.

“The first time I used a VR device, I saw the solar system,” says Senthil. “It was exciting and unforgettable.”

Senthil was working for a company at that time. Learning and exploring the solar system right in front of his eyes inspired him to start his own VR firm. He joined hands with his college friends, Dhanasekar and Chibi, his roommate Karthik and his cousin, Saravanan to start their VR company, Nutpam.

Senthil didn’t hesitate to quit his job and follow his idea. “I wanted to change the way we see the education system,” he says. He then did his own research on how VR makes an impact in the education sector.

“I found that when we read a content, we remember only about 35 per cent,” he explains. “But when we use VR, we experience the content and hence the rate of retention in our memory is almost 80 per cent.”

His team approached several schools to promote their services and found that many didn’t know about VR. They offer products that teach students complex subjects by simulating the concepts though VR. Nutpam also offers educational VR training in medical field.

“Our first client wwas a medical firm based in Brazil,” smiles Senthil. He added, “Through the use of VR, we can train medical students by virtually showing them parts of the human bodies and complex operations.”

Senthil has always been influenced by Bill Gates. “I saw a video in which he said he won’t give away his wealth to his children but spend it for the welfare of the people,” says Senthil.

“That was when I actually came to know about the word ‘Philanthropist’.”

It inspired Senthil to do something significant that positively affects the lives of the people around him.

He adds, “Almost every one uses Windows OS from computers in a garage to big industries. Likewise, I want to offer such technology that supports the society.” Senthil can be reached at www.nutpam.co

Field report
Market analysts forecast the global Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) gear market to grow at a Compund Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 37.45 per cent during 2017-2021 period.

However, there are disadvantages as well. The lack of adverts is one since a company relies on this form of revenue as well. Advertisements are the foundation to almost all companies and with the ad spend in the UK reaching £22.1 billion in 2017, it certainly is disadvantageous, say experts, However, on the flip side, AR can bring to life your ads through video.

E-commerce and AR
There are significant benefits to industries with the arrival of AR and digital marketing agencies and the like must take note of the possibilities for clients. Likewise, Ecommerce stores can improve their profile vastly with the use of this unique format. In numbers, Pokémon Go became the most profitable app in 2016, with 750 million downloads in that particular year.
