The Tamilnadu government has declared a public holiday tomorrow as a mark of respect to former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee who passed away this evening in Delhi.

Tamilnadu joined the nation in paying rich tributes to former prime minister and Bharat Ratna awardee, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who passed away in New Delhi this evening.

Former prime minister and BJP patriarch Atal Bihari Vajpayee (93), one of India’s most charismatic leaders, died here today, following prolonged illness, AIIMS hospital announced.

“The first Independence Day is still fresh in my mind. It was a wonderful morning, where houses at my street in Tirupur were decorated with colourful flowers. Women were seen drawing rangolis and tri-colour flags were hoisted in every household. Patriotic songs were played through speakers as well,” recollects Krishnamurthy.

“He was an MLA and popular playwright when the shoot of ‘Puthumai Pithan’ was on. I met him face-to-face for the first time at the shooting spot. Director T R Ramanna introduced me as an actor playing the role of ‘Nallannan’ in the movie. He gave me my dialogues and watched how I performed. At the end of the shoot, he appreciated me for acting well.”
